January

January is, famously, a month of new beginnings, named after the Roman god Janus, that literally two-faced (or two-headed) deity who faced both backwards and forwards, recalling the past even while he looked ahead to the future. January is also – at least if you’re in the upper end of the northern hemisphere – pretty cold and wintry.

A Legendary NASCAR Coach's Secrets of Elite Teams
A Legendary NASCAR Coach's Secrets of Elite Teams

What can your team learn about collaboration and creativity from NASCAR?

In motorsports, races are won and lost based on fractions of a second. The speed and precision of recurring pit stops in a race — where a dozen people collaborate around a vehicle – have the power to decide who wins.  A three-hour race can come down to those precious few seconds spent in the pits.

Pit stops are a collection of movement, concentration, empathy and reaction. Successfully accomplishing a virtual tire change (and learning from your mistakes), with your remote and hybrid teams, requires identical connection and execution.

For decades, mechanics, who optimized team performance based on individual skills and expertise, comprised pit crew rosters.  In the early 1990s, a former Stanford University football player, Andy Papathanassiou revolutionized the approach to pit stops — encouraging a new, more collaborative mindset.  His greatest value to motorsports, initially, was his position as an outsider, combined with outside-the-box thinking and ideas that fresh eyes bring to any challenge.

The result? Pit stop times dropped and the NASCAR crews coached by Andy consistently won. Today, the entire sport has shifted to leverage his methodology and cultural approach for working fast — together.

In this Teamraderie experience, Andy Papathanassiou joins you live. First, to lead an exercise in which your team performs its own competitive, virtual pit stop. You will learn the complexity of the collaboration and recognize the imperative for speed balanced against the need for accuracy. Next, Andy shares the analogies between pit stops and your own collaboration — all process driven events — and asks questions designed to evoke discussions that reveal constructive (and less constructive!) collaboration patterns in your own business.

Teams are astonished at the relevance of the “pit stop” analogy to software development, product innovations, and go-to-market. Bring your team together — led by NASCAR’s most thoughtful human performance director.

Program pricing:
$1,500 for the experience for up to 30 people, $30 per attendee kit + $15 domestic (U.S.) shipping per attendee (additional fees for International shipping).

Design a Team Ritual - A New Game to Improve 'Virtual Work'
Design a Team Ritual - A New Game to Improve 'Virtual Work'

Fatigue and collaboration remain challenges of virtual work. We recreated physical meetings in virtual space – but we did not establish the ‘ritual and routine’ that made in-person work more predictable and less taxing.

Stanford’s Glenn Fajardo and a group of researchers have found virtual meetings can be satisfying experiences with high-quality human connection – but only when given proper context or ritual.

Glenn joins you live to explain ritual and help your team create its OWN rituals to improve YOUR virtual workplace.

Brains, Bones, and Body Booster for Better Team Performance
Brains, Bones, and Body Booster for Better Team Performance

What can your team learn from celebrity actors, live news reporters and campaigning politicians?

For intense work environments where performance of elite talent relies heavily on mental speed, superior memory recall, and extreme focus under changing conditions, resistance training is key. Lifting weights improves cognitive functions and reduces fatigue. Yet access to time and equipment can be inconvenient and time consuming. Having strength training equipment at your hands’ reach and access to micro workouts throughout your day is one way to stay sharp and do your best work. And when we are mentally fit, we are better contributors to teams.

In this Teamraderie experience, a professional trainer will lead your team through energy-boosting strength training movements designed to recharge your mind by strengthening your body while at work. With the help of Obshay sculptural desk weights, the trainer will demonstrate some simple movements your team can complete conveniently throughout the day, even discreetly while on video calls. No sweat, no workout clothes, no body exposure required.

Come together as a team to activate your brains and bodies.

February

Little month of February,
You are small, but worthy—very!
Will you grow up like the others,
Like your sister months and brothers?
Every four years with a bound
With a leap up from the ground,
Trying to grow tall as they—
All you stretch is one small day!
Even then you’re not so tall
But just the shortest month of all.

Valentine's Day Intention Setting and Gifting Experience
Valentine's Day Intention Setting and Gifting Experience

How do you show appreciation to your team?

Valentine’s day is a time express appreciation and spread love to those around you.

In this Teamraderie experience, your team will participate in three activities designed to help you set intentions and share appreciation. You will start by learning a little bit more about one another. Then, you will discover and set intentions for where you would like your team to be at the end of this year. Finally, you will participate in a surprise virtual gifting activity where team members assign strengths to one another.

After the experience, each team member will receive a book and treats related to the unique strengths they were gifted.

Bring your team together, set intentions for the new year, and celebrate Valentine’s Day as a team!

We’ve made a thoughtful gift giving experience INCREDIBLY simple:

1 – Prior to the experience

Team members receive email asking two things – (1) share three adjectives to describe how they would like the team to feel at the end of the year, and (2) share a delivery address for their “gift”.

2 – During the experience

Assignment of “givers” and “recipients” – You’ll join Zoom/GVC/WebEx/Teams and also a Mural board. After your team joins, the host uses a geography- and emoji-centric game to map each team member to another in a daisy chain. Person A is the “giver” to Person B who is in turn the “giver” to Person C and in turn the “giver” to Person D.

Reveal of word cloud – The attributes collected pre-experience are revealed and you see a collective view of your team’s intentions for 2023.

Pick an attribute – The team is shown a list of attributes. They are things like “persistence” or “candor”. Each “giver” is asked to pick an attribute for their “receiver”. This is done on the Mural board, too.

Share how you perceive another’s strength – Your host shares a way to give a structured description of another’s strength. “I picked [ Attribute X ] for [ Person B ]. They make our team stronger. An example of where [ Person B ] demonstrated [ Attribute X ] and made us stronger is …”

3 – After the experience

Teamraderie sends gifts! – We send each team member a book and bookmark that references the attributes colleagues selected for them. We include a treat in the package to enjoy while sharing the book at home!

Do Something You’ve Never Done with Artist IN-Q
Do Something You’ve Never Done with Artist IN-Q

Harvard Business Review states, “Teams should make authenticity a core value from the start.” When employees introduce their authentic selves, “Both they and their employer perform better.”

Award-winning poet and song writer IN-Q joins you live. For the first ten (10) minutes, IN-Q performs a piece of work live — and your team becomes accustomed to ‘spoken word art’ or ‘slam poetry’ as a medium for story-telling. Then, IN-Q will share a prompt and your team will practice their own story-telling.

A February 2021 Wall Street Journal front-page article praised this Teamraderie experience for emblematic of how modern managers are adapting their style for a new era of work. The WSJ story quotes a Dell Technologies executive who used the experience to create “a deeper sense of trust between colleagues.” This experience will help your team form deep connections and trust – fast.

Empower People and Teams Through Vision Collaboration
Empower People and Teams Through Vision Collaboration

Are your team members confident in sharing ideas visually?

People love visuals as they are fast and easy to understand.  Studies show that ‘drawings’ (compared to ‘words’) exponentially improve our ability to grasp ideas and reach alignment.

Visual communication is a key skill in a modern hybrid world.

Unfortunately, few people are comfortable using ‘drawings’.  Many of your team’s best ideas may be ‘trapped’ inside your teammates.

In this Teamraderie experience, an acclaimed visual artist will join you live. Your team will learn three simple techniques that boost your confidence – and proficiency – at drawing your ideas.
Build collaborative workplace skills to boost your team’s performance.
