Company Context

The company is one of the world’s most admired tech companies. Founded in the mid-2000s, the company recorded compound annual growth of 50% for five (5) consecutive years. Revenues exceed $4B and free cash flow is over 20% of revenue. The company has beaten revenue and earnings estimates in every one of 30 quarters as a public company. Today, the company is routinely named one of the “best places to work”.

The company is regarded as a pioneer in the developer-centered economy and was among the first tech companies to pledge to donate 1% of its equity to advance social causes from poverty reduction in San Francisco to reforestation in Africa and social equity in Asia.

A Decision to Embrace “Flexible Work”

In 2022, the company announced it would be committing to a “flexible work” model – one where employees can choose to work from anywhere (home or office). The company would retain over a dozen office locations around the world – including its iconic San Francisco headquarters – and employees could access those offices as they pleased.

“Overwhelmingly, our employees said they did not want office mandates. So we listened,” the CEO told employees in an all-hands announcing new policies.

The Challenge

Concerns About Connection and Belonging

While employee engagement scores had remained high, executives noticed that scores around “connection” and “mission/purpose” were waning. Ironically, “connection” scores had surged during the 2020-2021 pandemic – and only began to ebb as the world became fully open. “We saw that we could create a really connected and vital workplace – but we would have to become more intentional about ‘how’, given our new flexibility policy,” one executive reported.

The Solution

A Program with Teamraderie

The Chief Executive Officer sought to bring in a solution that would create meaningful connections – while improving the speed with which teams engaged, collaborated, and got work done. In late 2023, half of the company’s 5k+ employees were enrolled in a pilot program in which they could choose any Teamraderie experience to share with their team in the ensuing three months.

The Results

94% of employees reported that “connection” had improved.
Data revealed that greater connection had led to faster response times, more collaboration, and surging morale.
96% of employees said they would recommend Teamraderie to a friend – yielding an NPS score of over 90. (Even companies like Tesla, T-Mobile, and WarbyParker have NPS scores in the mid-70s.)

Amplifying the Impact

Implementing A Global Program – Emphasizing Connection and Culture

After a successful pilot program, Teamraderie worked with the company to create a global program where all 5k+ employees can access Teamraderie experiences throughout the year to foster connection, improve soft skills, and reinforce company culture.
