Why It Is Ok to Drink Coffee Everyday

Drink Coffee Everyday

Is it healthy to drink coffee everyday?

During almost every coffee experience I facilitate I get asked this question. Now I’m not a Doctor but I know from the little research I’ve done on the subject that it isn’t bad to drink coffee everyday and that – like basically everything in the world – it’s good to have in moderation. I hadn’t really done extensive research on the subject though.

I decided that it was time to deep dive into this question and wanted to share the results.

Before I started, I knew what I wanted the answer to be. If nothing else to make me feel better about my own daily consumption. It should be noted that ‘coffee’ is a traditional cup of coffee, think pour over, drip, french press, espresso etc with 1 teaspoon of sugar and no milk.

Let’s batten down the hatches and find out!

Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee Everyday!

 – One review of 30 studies found that each cup of coffee people consumed per day was linked to a 6% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

 – Coffee helps support your brain health! It helps protect against certain neurodegenerative diseases such as alzheimers and parkinsons. It’s also been shown to help lower the risk of dementia and cognitive decline.

 – According to a review of seven studies, each cup of coffee people consumed per day was linked to an 8% lower risk of depression. Another study found that drinking at least four cups of coffee each day was associated with a significantly lower risk of depression, compared with drinking just one cup per day.

 – Another review of 21 studies showed that drinking three to four cups of coffee daily was associated with a 21% lower risk of stroke. What’s more, one study in more than 21,000 people also found that increased coffee intake was associated with a significantly decreased risk of heart failure.

All of these sound great by themselves. But how could drinking coffee everyday help over a longer period of time?

A study analyzed medical data from individuals over a 7-year period. During that time people who drink coffee everyday were 30% less likely to die during the study! 30%! A NY Times article on the study said the following.

“Researchers analyzed coffee consumption data collected from the U.K. Biobank, a large medical database with health information from people across Britain. They analyzed demographic, lifestyle and dietary information collected from more than 170,000 people between the ages of 37 and 73 over a median follow-up period of seven years. The mortality risk remained lower for people who drank both decaffeinated and caffeinated coffee. The data was inconclusive for those who drank coffee with artificial sweeteners.”
