Onboarding New Team Members

Are you onboarding new people and need to integrate them fast?

We used academic research to find a few possible solutions for your company.

Create psychological safety for new team members.

Harvard studies show psychological safety gives employees comfort in risk-taking, speaking their mind, showing creativity, and sticking their neck out without fear of having it cut off; it’s usually entirely absent in new hires.

Help team members show their authentic selves.

Spending just one hour in authenticity-centric exercises helped new hires acclimate three times as fast as peers who focused only on skills training and firm awareness.

Set up constructive discussions to reach shared understanding.

Researchers found new hires quickly use same ‘language’ as peers– but have different understandings, thereby negatively impacting collaboration. This can be fixed with simple exercises in discussion.

Practice values– don’t just read them.

Researchers evaluated the impact of “acting out” a set of values, relative to reading and memorization. Individuals who “acted out” the value were 4X more likely to retain what they learned and 2X more likely to have not violated the value.
